Cleric Subclass: Love Domain (Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition) (Updated for 2024)

A cleric subclass for the charming, the passionate and those who wish to spread love and care to all people. This subclass will make a cleric focused around charming and bewildering enemies while applying healing to your allies, for there is no force in the world that can overcome love!

Love is a fascinating topic, something understood by many, but varying in definitions by all. For dwarves, love may be engaging in a hefty craft alongside a partner. For elves, it may be engaging in an active activity like dance, or to make someone a subject of something like a painting. For halflings, love could just be a meal meticulously prepared and shared. None of these definitions are wrong, and is precisely what makes love so powerful, as a feeling that transcends every culture.

Gods of love vary just as much in size and stature as how love can be expressed itself. In the world of the forgotten realms, Sune, the goddess of beauty would fall under this domain, while in Greek mythology, Aphrodite comes to mind. A god of the love domain could be of beauty, fertility, passion or care.

Level 3: Sparking Passion

Also at 3rd level, whenever you or an ally within 30 feet of you makes a charisma (persuasion) check, you may imbue the words with a spark of passion from your god, allowing you to add your wisdom modifier to that roll. You may use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and regain all uses on a long rest.

Level 3: Wave of Love

Starting at 3rd level, you can expend one use of your Channel Divinity to spread loving feelings to nearby creatures. You may target a number of creatures within 30 feet (up to a maximum of your proficiency bonus) and they must roll against your spell save DC or become charmed. When charmed in this way, all usual effects of the charmed status apply, alongside them not being able to move, take attack actions or cast spells. If they are attacked, then they will no longer be charmed at the end of their next turn.

Level 6: Contagious Care

Starting from 6th level, your acts of compassion and love inspire and boost the vitality of all nearby allies. Whenever an ally within 30 feet of you heals hit points, you may use your reaction to cause all allies within that radius gain (wisdom modifier + proficiency bonus) temporary hit points. Temporary hit points gained this way are removed after 5 turns. You may use this effect a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and regain all uses on a long rest.

Level 17: Transcended Beauty

Starting from 17th level, your charm effects from spellcasting or channel divinity now ignore immunity to charmed. Additionally, you get the following benefits:

You gain proficiency in charisma saving throws.

You may add your wisdom modifier to all charisma (persuasion) checks.

You can communicate basic ideas and concepts to all creatures, regardless of if you share a language with them or they cannot speak a language.
